Maths exists everywhere in your life. The purpose of Functional Skills maths is to equip you with the mathematical skills to put to use in your working and everyday life.

We can teach you the skills and knowledge you require to achieve up to Level 2 Mathematics in a fun and relevant way.

We do this through integrating other topics and specialisms such as angles and measurements for Carpentry, ratio in Painting and Decorating and proportion for cooking tasty meals in Hospitality.

It encourages and promotes how these key skills are used in everyday situations.

Skills for employment, training and personal development is a qualification designed to prepare students for their future and cover areas such as equality and diversity, assertiveness and team work. Students will build a portfolio that includes a CV and a covering letter and also have the opportunity to practice interview techniques. This qualification will assist in preparing students for their next adventure.

Physical Education ( P.E. )

Physical Education course designed to prepare students for further P.E. & P.T. qualifications.

NOCN Level 1
At West Midlands Education & Skills we allow our students to express their own feelings and beliefs through creation of their own work and others artwork. During the course students take on challenges, participate in various activities, experience art events such as The Botanical garden as well as research artists who inspire them.

It is our aim to help young people enjoy the arts, encourage individual development and help to define their creative futures.

The Painting and Decorating course is a Level 1 Certificate that covers gaining practical skills and knowledge about the trade. Alongside the practical work numeracy and literacy are embedded in fun and interesting way.

The students are introduced to different decorating tools and materials as well as how to prepare a work space, learning skills on wallpaper, using the correct tools and techniques and gain knowledge in 2D shapes and angles. Throughout the course students will understand the importance of working safely and responsibly while working independently or as part of a team.

Students have the opportunity to attend trips such as to The Painting and Decorating show in Coventry and working on live projects around the school.

The Bricklaying course is a Level 1 Certificate in Construction Crafts (QCF) and is designed to provide an introduction to the construction industry. The certificate will explore skills, knowledge and techniques needed for Bricklaying. Within the course students will not only understand construction but environmental and health and safety issues. The students are encouraged to work on discussions as a group and develop their own skills independently. In the Bricklaying course to further the students knowledge we take the students on trips to places like Aston Hall so they can explore different types of Brickwork. This qualification is a practical course that will progress on to further vocational learning in Construction.
